WILKES-BARRE — A man who stole a carton of cigarettes from a convenience store was good enough to show the clerk his ID before fleeing with the smokes, police say.

The manager at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart at South Main and Blackman streets told police that a male stole a carton of cigarettes valued at $65.17 at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

The manager was reviewing surveillance video of the incident and showed officers a Facebook photo of Robert John Cool that matched the person in the video who stole the cigarettes, police said.

The cashier told police she she carded the male prior to selling him the cigarettes, and the name on his ID card was Robert Cool. She returned the ID card, Cool grabbed the cigarettes and fled the store, police said.

Police said Cool, of North Church Street, Hazleton, will be charged with retail theft.
