A state prosecutor is seeking the trial transcript of the Luzerne County non-jury trial of Megan Panowicz, who was acquitted by Centre County Senior Judge Charles Brown of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Panowicz, 29, formerly of Forty Fort and now of Bucks County, opted for a bench trial instead of a jury trial, which was held on June 17 and June 18.

Kingston police had charged Panowicz of striking Sharon Shaughnessy of Kingston as Shaughnessy walked across Wyoming Avenue, near Pierce Street, on Aug. 27, 2008.

Panowicz stopped but failed to call 911 and drove away after seeing two other vehicles run over Shaughnessy, who died from her injuries.

Brown, specially presiding in Luzerne County, acquitted Panowicz of accidents involving death.

State Deputy Attorney General Clarke H. Madden, who prosecuted Panowicz, filed a motion in county court Friday seeking the transcript of the non-jury trial.
