PLAINS TWP. — A Hughestown man has filed a wrongful-death suit against Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and the Geisinger Clinic, alleging negligence that led to the death of his wife days after giving birth to a son prematurely two years ago.

Ronald Wellington, who is represented by the law firm of Dougherty, Leventhal and Price, filed the suit last month in Luzerne County Court.

It concerns the death of Candice L. Perillo, 25, who died June 17, 2012, at the facility. Wellington filed on behalf of himself and the child, who was born at Geisinger on June 14, 2012. The suit seeks an unspecified amount of damages.

The 90-page document describes the last days of Perillo’s life, setting forth its allegations in extensive detail.

According to the suit, doctors and staff failed to properly identify and respond to issues in Perillo’s medical history that put her at risk for preterm labor and serious complications.

Based on court documents, the baby was more than a month early and weighed 1,414 kilograms, or just under 3 pounds, 2 ounces.

After a series of complications, Perillo died of septic shock, the suit states.
