The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. A flash flood watch has also been issued for both counties, and is also in effect until 9 p.m.

The forecast for tonight calls for showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Up to an inch of rain is possible late this afternoon, with an additional three quarters to an inch possible tonight.

Thunderstorms tonight could be severe and produce damaging winds, gusty winds and heavy rain.

A severe thunderstorm watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop in the area.
