The Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern Pennsylvania has selected Kingston-based architect David Sheydwasser to envision and oversee the creation of the new Center for Jewish Life.
The Center for Jewish Life will provide much-needed space for educational, social, culture, recreational and religious activities for decades to come for the region’s Jewish community. The state-of-the-art Third Avenue center will replace the aging Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Service buildings.
Sheydwasser noted it is early in the design process, and he will seek input into what the community would like to see embodied in the new building. Mindful of 170 years of Jewish history in the Wyoming Valley, he stressed that the center will not only be about functionality, but the design will contain Jewish symbolism and reflect the Jewish historical experience.
