WILKES-BARRE — Troubled apartment complex Sherman Hills appeared to be the scene of a shooting late Tuesday night.
Luzerne County 911 confirmed that Wilkes-Barre police and ambulances were responding to a shooting in the area Park View Circle between 11 p.m. and midnight Tuesday night.
According to the city police’s Facebook page, officers were dispatched to balding 328 at 11:31 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Two victims were at the scene, and police determined that there was an attempted robbery. Both victims had gunshot wounds — one was shot in the left leg, and the other was shot in the torso.
Both victims were transported to the hospital. No indication was given as to the severity of the victims’ wounds.
The incident is being investigated, and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
The apartment complex has been the site of drug arrests, violent crimes and shootings and was in jeopardy of losing its nearly $2 million in rental subsidies from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development unless its former owner, Sherman Hills Realty LLC of Brooklyn, New York made security and safety improvements. The company sold the complex to Sherman Hills Holdings LLC, a corporation set up by Treetop Development of Teaneck, New Jersey, in April.
Security improvements to the complex were a topic at a recent Wilkes-Barre City Council meeting.
