HANOVER TWP. — Township police and Luzerne County detectives have charged Isis Ann Brown with the deadly assault of her aunt in March.
Brown, 34, has been jailed at the county correctional facility since her arrest on aggravated assault charges on March 28.
Authorities allege Brown threw items at her aunt, Dorothy Koreny, 78, outside their home on Solomon Street in Hanover Township.
Koreny died at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township on April 8.
An autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Mary Pascucci found Koreny died from traumatic head injuries, according to the county Coroner’s Office. Her death was ruled a homicide.
A neighbor’s surveillance camera recorded Brown “going in and out of the front door numerous times,” beginning at about 5:30 a.m., March 28. The camera captured Brown bringing numerous objects out onto the front porch and throwing them at Koreny, who was lying on the sidewalk, according to the criminal complaint charging Brown with aggravated assault.
Township police were sent to the residence just before 7 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance, and found Koreny on the sidewalk next to the front porch of her home and Brown running into the house, the complaint says.
Police said in the complaint Brown came out of the house, threw a glass object at the officer and ran back inside. The officer pursued her and discharged his Taser, incapacitating Brown.
Brown allegedly told police, “It was self-defense. Look at my bruises.”
A criminal homicide charge was filed against Brown with District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township.
