Rescue personnel wait for a drowning victim to be recovered Friday from a pond near state Route 29 at the intersection with Loyalville Road in Lake Township. Luzerne County Acting Coroner William Lisman identified the deceased as Mark Stefanowicz, 59, of Lake Township. Lisman ruled the death an accidental drowning after an investigation by his office and state police ruled out foul play. Stefanowicz, who lived down the road from the pond, had gone swimming and was found in the pond by a family member, Lisman said. Emergency crews responded at about 2:20 p.m. and Stafanowicz’s body was recovered about 10 minutes later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
