WRIGHT TWP. — A Mountain Top man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he sent a lewd picture of himself to a 16-year-old girl he attempted to coerce into having sex.
State police at Shickshinny charged Michael Malkemes, 23, of Eagle Road, after the girl’s parents discovered numerous text messages on their daughter’s cellphone.
Malkemes was arraigned by District Judge Ronald Swank on charges of dissemination of sexual material to a minor, child pornography and corruption of minors. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
According to the complaint:
The girl told state police she met Malkemes during a softball game in May. They befriended each other on Facebook and began texting one another.
She stated they didn’t text about sex until she told Malkemes about a dream she had about him. After telling Malkemes about the dream, she stated, the text messages involved having sex, the complaint says.
Malkemes allegedly admitted to state police he was hesitant at first to communicate with the girl, knowing she was 16 years old, but it was obvious they liked each other, the complaint says.
When he found out the girl had sex with someone else, Malkemes stated he broke off the relationship because he did not want to get into trouble.
State police said they recovered the two lewd pictures and numerous text messages mentioning sex from the girl’s cellphone.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Dec. 11.
Another Mountain Top man with the same name who lives on Park Lane Drive is not connected to the incident.
