WILKES-BARRE – Voting starts today for the Community Service Partner Campaign, which will award a local nonprofit $10,000 in free advertising in The Times Leader.
The campaign is sponsored by The Times Leader, King’s College, Vision Imaging of Kingston and Pinnacle Rehabilitation Associates. The contest kicks off the launch of MyOwnWilkesBarre.com, where anyone can post their news, photos and events for the community to see.
“The selection of the winning nonprofit organization will happen in a two-fold process,” said Walt Lafferty, general manager of The Times Leader. “Residents will have a chance to vote on one of the 10 community-service organizations that were nominated in November and December. The top five vote-getters will then advance to a second round of voting to determine the winner. “
“The $10,000 in free advertising will help a local charity deliver its message online or in print, however it chooses,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Civitas Media, The Times Leader’s parent company. “The new website will bolster our already robust print and online products.”
The first round of voting takes place today at MyOwnWilkesBarre.com and continues until Jan. 3. Registration on the website is required to vote, and votes are restricted to one per person. After the second round of voting, a winner will be named in early February.
MyOwnWilkesBarre.com allows readers, schools, community organizations, local governments and others to post their favorite photographs, such as vacation or sports photos; share upcoming events, such as Scout meetings and bake sales; and even write their own blog.
Any local nonprofit in the Wilkes-Barre area with an IRS charitable designation was eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 of free advertising.
