James S. Dixon, 79, of Wilmington, Del., died peacefully March 17, 2004, at
his home.
    He was the son of the late Dr. James and Helen Dixon, Pittston, and
graduated from Pittston High School and Penn State University with a degree in
chemical engineering. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the
86th Blackhawk Division 1943-46. He then joined DuPont Co. and retired after
37 years in 1987. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and bridge player.
   
Dixon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Frances (Welsh), formerly
of West Pittston; daughter, Madalyn Dixon, who cared for him devoutly in his
last days; daughter, Mrs. John Mays, both of Wilmington; son George Dixon,
St.Paul, Minn.; grandchildren, John and Madalyn Mays; brother, George, State
College; sisters, Ann Young, Harrisburg; Rose Kearney, Vermont; Jeanne Butler,
Clarks Green.
   
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian; sisters, Alicia Dixon; Margaret
Coughlin; Mary Helen Kieffer.
   
He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church, Wilmington. A funeral Mass
was held and burial was at All Saints’ Cemetery, Newark, Del.
