WILKES-BARRE — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released the names of the two men arrested in connection with a string of local armed robberies.
Jeffrey Townsley, 42, and Charles Conden, 47, were taken into custody on Friday at the Red Roof Inn in Plains Township, acording to a press rlease issued this afternoon by Edward J. Hanko, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division.
Townsley is charged by criminal complaint in nine armed robberies that took place between Dec. 24 and Jan. 10, including:
· the Dec. 24, 2013 robbery of First National Community Bank in Kingston;
· the Dec. 26, 2013 robbery of Claire’s Bar in Hanover Township;
· the Dec. 26, 2013 robbery of Forever Nails in Hanover Township;
· the Dec. 27, 2013 robbery of Adult World in Larksville;
· the Jan. 2, 2014 robbery of First National Community Bank in Hanover Township;
· the Jan. 6, 2014 robbery of Dollar General in Wilkes-Barre;
· the Jan. 7, 2014 robbery of Aldi in Kingston;
· the Jan. 8, 2014 robbery of Thomas’ Market in Larksville; and
· the Jan. 10, 2014 robbery of Family Dollar in Ashley.
Conden is charged by criminal complaint as a co-conspirator.
Townsley and Conden were incarcerated at the Lackawanna County Prison in Scranton pending initial appearances before a magistrate judge, scheduled for 4 p.m. today.
These arrests follow an investigation by a multi-agency task force launched by the FBI’s Scranton Resident Agency, the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, and the Kingston, Wilkes-Barre, Hanover Township, Plains Township, Larksville, and Ashley Police Departments.

WILKES-BARRE — A news conference is being scheduled for Tuesday to announce details about the arrests of two men suspected in a string of armed robberies in the Wyoming Valley.
The two men were captured in Lackawanna County Friday night, several law enforcement sources said Monday.
Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis did not release the names of the two men, adding details will likely be released at a news conference scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is scheduled to present evidence to a federal grand jury Tuesday regarding several robberies in the Wyoming Valley. Several businesses that were robbed received subpoenas for their surveillance recordings to be presented before the grand jury.
Here is a list of several robberies in the area since December:
Dec. 24: First National Community Bank, Wyoming Avenue, Kingston.
Dec. 25: Uni-Mart, Hazle Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Dec. 26: Claire’s Bar, Hazle Street, Hanover Township, and Forever Nails Salon, West End Road, Hanover Township.
Dec. 27: Adult World Book and Movie Store, state Route 11, Larksville.
Jan. 3: First National Community Bank, Sans Souci Parkway, Hanover Township.
Jan. 7: Aldi Supermarket, Pierce Street, Kingston.
Jan. 8: Thomas Food Mart, Washington Avenue, Larksville.
