Hazleton native Keith London was invited to compete in Hollywood for the Fox TV network series “American Idol.”
London’s audition in Boston was aired Wednesday on the first day of a two-day series premiere. The 21-year-old played acoustic guitar and sang his own rendition of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
He got off to a rough start, faltering in the first line of the song. He quickly regained his composure, which earned him a flirtatious interruption by judge Jennifer Lopez who said, “OK, stop. I don’t want you to ruin it. I liked that song, but you just made me like it more.”
Country music singer Keith Urban commended London on his stage presence, saying he was memorable.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to remember you because you have a unique look, you have a unique way of being and that’s good enough for me,” Urban said.
Lopez and Urban voted to send him to Hollywood. “Idol” Judge Harry Connick Jr. held his vote, saying he thought London was “OK,” but he just wasn’t a good enough singer.
