Free assistance set for veterans

Area veterans can meet with an American Legion service office to answer questions about benefits and to help file claims on the second Tuesday of every month at the Hazleton district office of state Rep. Tarah Toohil, R-Butler Township.


The service officer will be available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and can address issues such as:


• Compensation and pension claims.


• Education benefits.


• Enrollment in the VA health care system.


• Burial and survivor benefits.


• State benefits.


• Obtaining military personnel and medical records.


To schedule an appointment veterans are asked to contact Toohil’s district office at 570-453-1344. The office is located at 1 W. Broad St., Suite 100, Hazleton.
