HAZLETON — A man was flown to a trauma center from Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton after he was shot several times at 6th and Grant streets early Saturday, Hazleton police reported.

Police said they apprehended the alleged shooter, Hector Alvarez, 25, who was found hiding in a third-floor attic, following the 2:35 a.m. incident. Police also recovered the gun. Police said Alvarez admitted his involvement in the shooting and was charged with aggravated assault, possessing a firearm without a license, prohibition from possessing a firearm and several other violations. He was arraigned later Saturday and committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail, according to the prison records department.

Police did not release the identity of the victim on Saturday or report where he was undergoing treatment.
