Despite the opinions of a very few people, consider these Facts about the Wyoming Area School District:
Fact: Wyoming Area is staffed by dedicated hardworking professionals. Drop by the school any day between 2:30 and early evening and observe staff working with, mentoring and teaching students.
Fact: Wyoming Area students’ successful performance on the PSSA tests yearly is very well documented. Consider: the most recent scores of 81% Reading and 86% Math overall performance of all grades tested. The 11th grade scored 83% in Math which placed them in the top 2% in the state out of 500 schools tested.
Fact: Wyoming Area students are offered the opportunity to earn college credits by participating in programs at local colleges (and some not so local colleges) by enrolling in summer courses and in some cases where scheduling permits attending classes during the school day or evenings during the school year. Several students have earned credits that have been used toward their degrees once they enroll in college.
Fact: Wyoming Area seniors receive approximately two million dollars in scholarship monies yearly. Several of our students attend college on full scholarships yearly.
Fact: Wyoming Area Awards approximately forty thousand dollars in local scholarship money yearly. These scholarships are donated by local civic groups, businesses, families, individuals and school organizations. In addition monetary awards are also given by the athletic organizations to deserving athletes.
Fact: Last spring, Wyoming Area had four finalists in the Times Leader Best and Brightest competition held yearly. Three Wyoming Area students were selected as winners in the following categories: Business, Art and English. This was the best record of the 19 local public and private high schools that participated in this program.
Fact: Wyoming Area has consistently had two students selected yearly for the Scranton Tribune’s Scholastic Superstar Team.
Fact: The wide array of colleges, specialty schools and universities Wyoming Area students are accepted to and attend include the Ivy Leagues, Service Academies, private colleges, state universities and all the local colleges as well as an abundance of technical schools and community colleges.
Fact: The student service organizations offer the students the opportunity to do community service and their work is recognized throughout the state. Their awards are numerous.
Fact: Last year (class of ’09) Wyoming Area had three students selected and who attended the prestigious Governor’s Schools of Excellence in Science, Teaching and Arts: Creative Writing. Governor’s School has been discontinued due to state budget cuts. Hopefully it will be resurrected at some future date. Wyoming Area has consistently sent students to Governor’s Schools. it is a 6 week intensive summer program which is highly competitive and included the best high school students in the state of Pennsylvania.
Fact: The local colleges and universities know of the reputation of our student’s education and are quick to point this out.
Fact: There are local leadership programs that our students participate in and they have established a reputation for outstanding service and leadership to these programs. Fact: The academic teams which represent Wyoming Area and their successes are legend.
Fact: Many colleges know of and recognize Wyoming Area students as hardworking and successful
Fact: The many successes of Wyoming Area graduates speak volumes for the district.
