Ayla Samano of Pittston Area, a senior member of the Audio/Visual Communication class at the Wilkes-Bare Area Career and Technical Center, placed second out of 15 for Television Production contest last week at the Pennsylvania Skills USA competition in Hershey.

She and Casey Ross from Crestwood had to make a 60 second promotional video for the Giant Center in Hershey.

Pennsylvania Skills USA is a student organization that develops employability, participatory and leadership skills to complement the occupational skills developed by students in technical education classrooms or work-based learning sites.


Three Greater Pittston students were among student and faculty researchers from Misericordia University’s Department of Occupational Therapy that recently presented their research findings at the American Occupational Therapy Association’s 2014 Annual Conference in Baltimore in April.

Monica Wall of Pittston, Samantha Panuski of Pittston Township, and Joseph McGarry of Inkerman, Jenkins Township, were included.

Students and faculty members from the department made 18 presentations at the national conference.
