WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested a man they say had a sexual relationship with a teenage girl because his wife was unable to have sex due to her pregnancy and birth of their child.
Danny Maldonado, 21, of East Carey Street, Plains Township, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon by District Judge Martin Kane on charges of rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and three counts each of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.
Maldonado survived three gunshot wounds, including one round to his head, in a shooting that killed his brother, Nicholas Maldonado, 17, Bradley Swartwood, 21, and Lisa Abaunza, 15, inside an apartment on First Street, Plymouth, on July 7, 2012.
Half-brothers Shawn Hamilton, 20, and Sawud Davis, 17, pleaded guilty to the homicides and were sentenced in December to life in prison.
Police allege Maldonado coerced a 14-year-old girl into having a sexual relationship because his wife wasn’t able to have sex during her pregnancy and after she gave birth to a daughter in November, according to the criminal complaint.
