Dr. Vincent J. Peck, B.S. pharm.D., of West Pittston, recently graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy, where he received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree.


Peck is a graduate of Wyoming Area High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from the University of the Sciences. He will begin working at Fino’s Pharmacy, Pittston, as the fourth generation of pharmacists in the Fino family to serve the Greater Pittston Area.


Peck is the son of Vincent (Jack) and Annette Peck.


Happy birthday


Ed Carlin, of Avoca, celebrated his birthday on May 29. He is wished a speedy recovery.


Tony Bianco, of Pittston, will celebrate a birthday on June 13. He was born on St. Anthony’s Feast Day, is a memeber of the Italian American Association and served as Man of the Year. He is a member of St. Joseph Marello Holy Name Society.


Four advance


in Martial Arts


Four Greater Pittston residents have earned a second gold stripe to their Black Belts in Martial Arts.


Brittany Galli, of Exeter; Brittany Neeley, of West Pittston; Ralph Kovaleski, of West Wyoming; and Steve Willison, of Wyoming, all earned second-degree Black Belt promotion by successfully completing testing.


In martial arts training, belt-rank and advancement is recognition of a student’s progress. All students began training as white belts.


A student’s primary study of the martial arts culminates with them attaining rank of Black Belt. Students may subsequently test for advanced Black Belt ranking, such as 2nd- and 3rd-degrees and so on. Upper Black Belts are awarded advanced rink for achievement and honor in the additional study of the martial arts and continued training. The rank of 4th-degree is considered Master level status.


Local girl spending summer doing creative research


Sarah Crake, a theatre major from West Pittston, is spending the summer tackling an Albright Creative Research Experience (ACRE) project.


ACRE is a multi-disciplinary program that affords undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct research or pursue creative endeavors during the summer break or the three-week January Interim. Students work alongside faculty mentors.


Topics range from drama therapy to 3D printing to the effects of white nose syndrome on bats. Many collaborative teams of students and faculty present their research at academic conferences and publish their results in professional journals.
