WRIGHT TWP. — The Crestwood Area School Board on Thursday advanced plans for a $6 million bond issue to finance a number of projects by unanimously (7-0) passing a resolution to issue a series of 2015 general obligation bonds.

The board was informed by bond counsel that the school district has a double-A rating and financing can prospectively be at a 2.811 percent interest rate.

Previously Superintendent David McLaughlin-Smith and board chairman Gerry Orloski said the package is intended to include repairs to the school buildings, the installation of electronic security systems and replacement of the turf at the football stadium.

The bond issue was were affirmed on a vote by school directors Orloski, Maureen McGovern, Randy Swank, Eric Aideldinger, Norbert Dotzel, Eugene Mancini and Ken Malkemes. Brian Thomas and Michael Marshall didn’t attend the meeting.

Besides fiscal issues, the board also acted to accept a notice of retirement from teachers Marylu Wirbicki, August Marini, Vicki Moore and JoAnn Jones. A retirement proposal, effective August 4, was accepted for Frederick Rose of the custodial staff.

The school calendar for 2015-16, in particular the starting day of Sept. 8, came under public scrutiny, causing McLaughlin-Smith to explain that the date was selected because of contractual issues. McLaughlin-Smith added, however,

that while the calendar has already been formulated, the matter could be opened for further discussion.

Besides the professional staff, it was also announced that the resignation of Patrick Brogan as girls’ basketball coach was

accepted and these appointments were confirmed for spring sports: Timothy Ferguson, assistant junior high boys’ track;

David Minnig, assistant junior high girls’ track and Stewart Caladie, assistant junior high boys’ baseball.
