WILKES-BARRE — Many write-in candidates have found their way onto the November general election ballot, according to results released Thursday by the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections.

In Wilkes-Barre Township, Mayor Carl Kuren easily won the Republican nomination and also garnered the Democratic nod with 76 write-in votes in the May 19 primary.

Though the Democratic and Republican primaries were held nine days ago, Luzerne County Administrative Services Division Head David Parsnik said there were so many write-in votes that it took until Thursday to finish the municipal tallies.

There were no candidates on either the Democratic or Republican ballots for mayor in Penn Lake Park Borough, so write-in candidate Debra Krysicki will appear on both tickets in November for mayor. She received 32 Democratic votes and 27 Republican tallies.

Vincent Kimsal and Shaun Kuter, who both won Democratic nominations for Penn Lake Park council, will also be on the ballot as Republican candidates. Kuter got 22 GOP votes and Kimsal received 21.

Charles Herring won write-in nominations on the Republican (47 votes) and Democratic (48 votes) tickets for Slocum Township Supervisor.

Peter Cwalina was nominated on both tickets in Swoyersville’s Ward 3, with 43 Democratic votes and 19 Republican.

Joseph Onzik got both nods for a council seat in Swoyersville’s Ward 1 with 99 Democratic votes and 39 Republican. There was no Republican contender on the ballot in this race. Democratic ballot candidate Deborah Layaou was knocked out after the write-in count because she had received 84 votes in last week’s primary, according to unofficial results.

Larry Carbohn won the Democratic nomination in Warrior Run with 17 write-in votes.

In Exeter borough, Herman Castellani and Samuel McArthur tied for the Republican nomination, each receiving 24 write-in votes. The winner will be decided by a coin flip sometime next week, according to the Election Bureau. Castellani won the Democratic nomination with 461 votes.

In Jeddo Borough, the ballot was empty for mayor and two council seats. Democrat Dawn Kaschak (13 votes) and Republican George Williams (11 votes) were nominated for council posts.

In Laflin Borough, Dorothy Yazurlo was nominated for mayor on the Republican ticket. She also won the Democratic nomination with 11 write-ins.

In the race for Luzerne County Council, Republican Gene Kelleher and Democrat Robert Schnee won write-in campaigns to join the November field. Kelleher received 448 votes and Schnee had 384.
