WILKES-BARRE — A Harveys Lake man sentenced last week to six to 13 years in prison for robbing three banks has asked a judge to reduce his sentence.

Girard Kalinay, 56, of Pine Street, was sentenced last week on three counts of robbery stemming from the crimes that ranged from November 2011 to May 2012.

Authorities portrayed Kalinay as someone who turned to robbing banks to maintain his lifestyle. He told police he was having money problems. Kalinay later lost his $80,000-a-year job at Air Products and Chemicals in Tamaqua.

In a one-page motion to modify Kalinay’s sentence, his attorney, William Ruzzo, requests reconsideration of Judge Michael Vough’s decision to run Kalinay’s sentences consecutive to one another.
