SWOYERSVILLE - A Luzerne man appeared for a preliminary hearing late Thursday morning on five counts of possessing child pornography.

Michael Shaw, 38, of Bennett Street, left magisterial district court facing 1,753 counts of having child pornography videos and pictures on a computer.

Luzerne County Assistant District Attorney Jenny Roberts amended the original criminal complaint adding the enormous number of child pornography counts against Shaw.

Shaw was arrested by county detectives and Luzerne police on June 6 when a few images of children engaged in sex acts were allegedly found in his residence.

A forensics examination of Shaw’s computer and discs seized from his residence allegedly uncovered 120 videos and 1,633 pictures of child pornography, Roberts said.

Shaw is also charged with having inappropriate contact with a young boy.

He waived his right to a preliminary hearing sending all 1,753 counts to county court.

Shaw remains jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $50,000 bail.
