WILKES-BARRE - City police arrested a man outside police headquarters when a stolen cell phone fell from his shorts.

Patrick J. Hearst, 21, of Plymouth, accompanied Erin Murphy, 20, of Plains, to police headquarters to report her Iphone was stolen from her car, which was parked near Holy Redeemer High School on South Washington Street late Sunday night.

While Murphy was talking to an officer in the lobby, she allegedly heard a phone vibrating in Hearst’s shorts, according to the criminal complaint.

Hearst emptied his pockets only showing a wallet, police said.

Murphy followed Hearst outside accusing him of having her phone.

As Hearst walked away from Murphy, an officer stopped and searched him causing a phone to fall from his shorts, the complaint says.

Murphy said it was her phone that fell from Hearst’s shorts, police said.

Hearst was arraigned Monday morning on charges of theft and public drunkenness. He was released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
