HAZLE TWP. - An administrator and international cultural lecturer at King’s College was charged Tuesday with possessing child pornography.

Dr. James A. Stewart, 51, of Wright Township, blamed his wife’s absence from their house for the day when he had a “couple beers” and became “curious” when he allegedly downloaded children engaged in sex acts on a computer, according to the criminal complaint.

Stewart is a tutorial administrator and lectures in international cultures at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre.

King’s College spokesman John McAndrew said Stewart has been suspended without pay.

Stewart was arrested at his home when investigators served a search warrant Tuesday morning.

He allegedly told investigators he had a couple beers and became curious when he downloaded child pornography a few weeks ago when his wife was away from their home, the complaint says.

Stewart claimed he felt “guilty and ashamed” and deleted files from a computer. A SD Card that Stewart kept in his wallet contained 10 videos consisting of more than 57 minutes of child pornography, the complaint says.

Stewart was arraigned by District Judge James Dixon in Hazle Township on 100 counts of dissemination of children’s sex acts, and 10 counts each of child pornography and criminal use of communication facility. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $75,000 bail.
