WILKES-BARRE - A city man is jailed for lack of $250,000 bail on charges he threatened another man with a handgun.

City police said James Robert Whiteside III, 27, of Mayflower Crossings, aimed a handgun at another man and pulled the trigger twice in the area of South Main and Academy streets Monday night. The handgun did not discharge a round.

Police said they recovered a loaded .9mm handgun from Whiteside’s pocket, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said a round in the gun’s chamber had a primer mark caused by the firing pin when it misfired.

Whiteside was arraigned earlier today by District Judge John Hasay in Shickshinny on two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of reckless endangerment and terroristic threats.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 16.
