Council eyes bids for handicap accessibility
   
The Borough Council on Thursday night opened and tabled five bids for
improvements for the municipal building concerning handicap accessibility.
    Three contracting firms bid on all line items and two other firms deleted
several items.
   
Bidding in full were Lake Construction Co. Inc., West Avoca, $42,384.53;
Aston Development Corp., Clarks Summit, $45,545; Russo Construction Co. Inc.,
Exeter, $59,930. Partial bids were submitted by Figlock Construction Co.,
White Haven, $43,900; P&R Builders, Plains, $35,396.20.
   
In other business:
   
The council instructed the borough’s engineer, Michael J. Pasonick Jr.,
Inc., to draw up specifications for a number of roads to be considered for
paving this year.
   
The streets include:
   
First Ward: Gedding and St. Mary’s streets; Second Ward: Cherry Street,
Wood Street, from Hawthorne to Cherry; borough building parking lot, Mill
Street, Main to tracks; Third Ward: Spruce Street, a section of William
Street; Vine, Brown and Spring streets.
   
The council hired Benjamin Bartoli Sr. as part-time police officer at a
rate of $6.75 an hour.
   
Roto Rooter, Scranton, was hired to do the cleaning of sewer lines on
Spring Street and York Avenue.
   
The council hired Jay Gashi, Avoca, to cut and remove a tree on South
Street at a cost of $150.
