Leonard Wydotis

    Leonard W. Wydotis, 80, of Miner Avenue, Wanamie, Newport Township, died
   
Wednesday at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, NanticokeBorn Feb. 16, 1916
in Glen Lyon, Newport Township, he was the son of the late Walter and
Antoinette (Navitski) Wydotis.
   
He attended the Newport Township High School, and in the early 1930s he
joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) under President Franklin D.
Roosevelt.
   
Before retiring in 1971, he was employed as a coal miner for 37 years by
the Glen Alden Coal Co.
   
He was past president and treasurer of the United Mine Workers Local No.
6765 for 15 years.
   
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Wanamie, and its Holy Name Society,
and served as an usher and maintenance man for the church.
   
He and his wife, the former Helen J. Lochunis, would have celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary this Jan. 16, 1997.
   
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Young, in November of 1990;
a sister, Julia Zapora, in August of 1984.
   
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Leonard E., Brooksville, Fla.;
seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Adeline Martuza,
Hanover Section of Nanticoke; several nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the George A. Strish,
Inc., Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Wanamie.
   
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
   
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
