WILKES-BARRE- Tunkhannock shot itself out of Friday’s District 2 Class AAA
play-in game against Wyoming Area.
   
The Tigers, who made only 14 of 44 field-goal attempts (31.8 percent), also
shot themselves in the foot by committing 20 turnovers.
    The Warriors took advantage of the Tigers’ misfortunes and made eight
consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter to seal a 46-33 victory at
King’s College’s Scandlon Gymnasium.
   
Wyoming Area had already secured a District 2 Class AAA playoff berth
before the game and will be the third seed in the eight-team tournament.
   
Tunkhannock’s season ends at 2-14 in the Wyoming Valley Conference, 2-22
overall. With Tunkhannock’s loss, Dallas qualifies for the district tournament
as a wild card.
   
The Warriors (8-8, 12-13) shot only 26.5 percent from the field (13 of 49),
but benefited from the Tigers’ turnovers and never trailed.
   
Tunkhannock got within 36-32 on Taylor Stuckey’s free throw with 5:32 left
in the game. But Adam Kowalczyk and P.J. Sciandra each made four free throws
as Wyoming Area closed the game with a 10-1 run.
   
Dean Williamson had 11 points to lead the Warriors. Sciandra added 10
points, six assists and three steals. Rich Musinski had seven rebounds, and
Steve Buzinski had six rebounds and three blocked shots.
   
Matt Davis had 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the
Tigers. Brian Quinn added eight points and two steals.
