WILKES-BARRE – Edmund Smith was found guilty Tuesday of fondling a
14-year-old girl last year.
A jury convicted Smith of one count each of aggravated indecent assault,
indecent assault and corruption of a minor following a trial before Luzerne
County Court of Common Pleas Judge Patrick Toole.
Smith was found not guilty of additional single counts of aggravated
indecent assault and indecent assault.
Smith was charged after the girl told police he fondled her at the
Edwardsville apartment of a family friend on Oct. 12, 1998.
The girl testified she was visiting the home with some of her friends,
Smith and another adult. The other adult went to get pizza and Smith took her
into a bedroom and fondled her.
