YORK, Pa. (AP) — Three central Pennsylvania prison guards have been ordered to stand trial on charges that they mistreated inmates.

Twenty-eight-year-old David Whitcomb of Hellam, 26-year-old Mark Haynes of Jacobus, and 37-year-old Daniel Graff of York are charged in York County with official oppression and harassment. All are un unpaid administrative leave from their county prison jobs.

Prosecutors allege that they forced inmates to engage in a range of activities for their entertainment, from eating a spoonful of cinnamon to taking pepper spray to the face, in exchange for food and other privileges. State police allege that the behavior occurred between the end of January and the end of June.

Defense attorneys attacked the credibility of inmate witnesses Wednesday and said they were confident that they would prevail at trial.
