READING, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say a cyclist was struck and killed by a slow-moving freight train.

Police in Reading said the victim was riding near the tracks Wednesday afternoon when his bike somehow got caught underneath the train.

The Reading Eagle ( ) said emergency crews were called to the scene just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Berks County coroner’s office pronounced 18-year-old Jaylan Rodriguez dead at the scene less than an hour later.

Norfolk Southern officials directed questions to police but said the train had been stopped and apparently had just started moving at the time of the accident.

Spokesman Dave Pidgeon said the freight train had come from Allentown and was heading west toward Conway, Beaver County.
