PLAINS TWP. — A new convection oven is on the way for the Wilkes-Barre Area Career & Technical Center after the school’s joint operating committee approved its purchase Monday.

The Garland oven will be purchased from Clark’s Food Service of Lancaster under a quote through the state school contract at a cost of $10,990. The approved quote was the lowest one meeting specifications, according to the committee.

The committee also approved soliciting bids for an AnaJet Digital Apparel Printer, which will be paid for with a $31,776 supplemental equipment grant received by the school.

In personnel matters, the committee approved the appointment of Mary Supey, MSN, as a part-time clinical instructor for the practical nursing program at a rate of $175 per day.

It was noted the practical nursing program’s licensing test pass rate is 98 percent, compared to the Pennsylvania state average of 88 percent.

In other business, the board:

- Approved renewing the alarm and detection agreement with Tyco/Simplex Grinnel Co. at an annual cost of $593

- Approved payment for September services to attorneys Jack Dean and Ray Wendolowski in the amounts of $1,213 and $312, respectively

- Approved an upgrade to the camera system infrastructure at a cost of $10,372 payable to Computer Visionaries

- Approved a renewal of the contract with TriState McQuay Service for maintenance to the compressor chillers at a cost of $4,496 for the first year and $4,608 and $4,720 for years two and three.
