Timing was perfect when Lew Matalavy’s trail camera captured this image in Wyoming County. The photo on the right is a red-tailed hawk swooping into the frame. On the shaded tree in the middle is a gray squirrel, caught in a pretty precarious position. Notice how the hawk has set its wings and is beginning to push its talons forward to snatch the squirrel.

Matalavy’s camera didn’t capture a follow-up image. I imagined things happened too fast after that, but I suspect it didn’t turn out very well for the squirrel.

Capture anything interesting on your hand-held or trail camera? A nice buck, bear, coyote or any other wildlife? We’d love to see it. Each week, we’ll run photos from a reader’s trail camera on the Sunday Outdoors page. Email your photo, along with date and area it was taken (township is fine), and any other details to [email protected].
