The devious firing of eight prosecutors for blatantly political reasons by the Republicans in power is amazing.
The fact that the furor about it “took the Bush administration by surprise” is also amazing. The fact that Republican Sen. Domenici apologizes only lightly and qualifiedly for his part in the affair is amazing. Fraud has gotten so widespread in this administration that it is almost defended.
It is extremely complicated to run even a “simple” criminal case. Firing the bosses of eight prosecutorial offices cripples all the cases in progress. That is monumental waste.
Iraq, New Orleans, Walter Reed — Republican waste, fraud and abuse. Brazen incompetence.
