SCRANTON — Steamtown National Historic Site will join with the more than 400 National Park Service unites to celebrate the 99th birthday of “America’s Best Idea” with an “Entrance Fee Free Day” on Aug. 25.

The National Park Service was created by the Organic Act signed by Woodrow Wilson on Aug. 25, 1916.

The entrance fee-free day will provide complimentary admission to the park grounds, museum complex and scheduled walking tours, but will not include train rides and/or other amenity fees charged by the park.

For a small charge, visitors can ride the “Scranton Limited” short train ride inside the railroad yards.

Steamtown is open daily from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. through Dec. 31, closed on Christmas and New Year’s days.Winter hours are 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. beginning Jan. 2, through April 3. General park information is available by phoning (570) 340-5200 during regular business hours, or by visiting the park website anytime at www.nps.gov/stea.
