FAIRVIEW TWP. — Two people were found dead in a Fairview Township residence as a result of a murder/suicide on Saturday morning, according to Police Chief Phil Holbrook.

Holbrook said the victims, who were “in their 50s or 60s” — one male and one female, a married couple — died from gunshot wounds, with the husband shooting his wife and then himself.

The home at 88 Kirby Ave. was flooded with police presence just after 10 a.m. when the incident was called in by an adult family member.

Wright Township and Fairview Township police departments and Pennsylvania State Police initiated the investigation.

Luzerne County Coroner Bill Lisman was on the scene shortly after police arrived, and the two bodies were removed from the home.

Lisman said the names of the deceased would not be released until Sunday.

According to Holbrook, the investigation is ongoing.
