HAZLETON — A city man was found hiding in weeds after he fled from police who were investigating reports of gunshots near Columbus Court on Tuesday, authorities report.

Adam Maratese, 27, was one of two men who allegedly ignored officers’ orders to get on the ground after police encountered them walking out of the woods where the gunshots had been heard.

After a foot pursuit, Maratese was located hiding in tall grass. He was in possession of a stolen handgun and eight baggies of crack cocaine, police said.

Maratese was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The whereabouts of the second suspect are unknown.
