WILKES-BARRE — A woman getting the license plate information of a shoplifter was struck by the fleeing car Thursday on South Main Street, police said.

The driver intentionally backed into the woman and knocked her to the pavement, police said. The name of the woman or the extent of her injuries was not listed in the police report.

According to police:

Just before 3 p.m. the victim noticed a white female wearing a black Dunkin’ Donuts shirt was about to leave a business with three bags of merchandise. The only employee, who was working the cash register, called to the female and asked her to pay for the merchandise. The female hurried out the exit into an older model maroon car. The victim chased after the female and got behind the car to write down the license plate. The driver backed into the victim who was knocked down and the car drove off heading north on the street.
