The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.
151 Memorial Convenience Inc., 151 Memorial Hwy., Dallas: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Chicken salad hoagie, buffalo chicken hoagie, hard boiled eggs, chicken cutlet sandwiches and pizza held at 50 – 52° F, in the cold hold unit, rather than 41° F or below as required. All of food items were voluntarily discarded since facility was unable to determine how long the food items were out of the acceptable temperature range. The person in charge cleaned the coils and the refrigeration unit temperature dropped. The “Fresh Food Fast” cold hold unit in the facility is not maintaining TFS foods at a temperature of 41° F or below.
Butler Township Fire Co., 14 W Butler Dr., Drums: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: three compartment bar sink has build up of mineral deposits in basins. Bin walls and cuber head have build up of scum/mold on ice contact surfaces. Taken out of service and commenced cleaning during inspection. Fan guards in walk in cooler have build up of static dust.
C&D Seafood, 722 Wilkes-Barre Township Blvd., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Bags of ice stored in chest freezer alongside raw seafood items. Ice was relocated. Toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door. Food facility using rodent bait placed in bait stations which are not covered and tamper resistant. Baits were discarded.
The Dough Company, 570 Kidder St., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of mold like residue on the interior of the ice machine. Machine was emptied during inspection and will be cleaned and sanitized prior to use. Observed a build up of food residue on the shelves in the walk in cooler. Observed a build up of residue on the non-food contact surfaces on the mixer. Three bay sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap. Observed a build up of residues and debris on the floor under storage shelves and equipment in the storage, prep areas and the walk in refrigeration units.
Fisher’s Firehouse Grill, 14 W. Butler Dr., Drums: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Food facility is reusing plastic/glass bottles which are intended to be a single-service or single-use article.
Kennedy Elementary Center, 58 Penn Ave., Exeter: Regular inspection, in compliance.
Lee Park Primary, 99 Lee Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance.
New Mart, 108 S. Memorial Hwy., Shavertown: Regular inspection, in compliance.
Subway, 336 East End Center, Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance.
The Atrium Restaurant, 331 Market St., Kingston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a bag of potatoes stored directly on the floor cook line area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. An employee moved the potatoes to the rear portion of the facility and placed and left them on the floor. The potatoes were then elevated off the floor during this inspection. Eggs are served raw or under cooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. The facility printed consumer advisory placards and placed on each table during this inspection until new menus are printed. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was o ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Observation revealed that the bottle of chemical sanitizer solution was empty. A new bottle of sanitizer was applied and the residual sanitizer concentration was then 50 ppm. Observed deeply scored cutting board on the Bain Marie, not resurfaced or discarded as required. The edges of the drip plate/tray inside of the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have a black mold like residue and not clean to sight and touch. The plate and tray were cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. Observed the inside floor surface of the Frigidaire refrigerator near the ovens the rear of the facility, with an accumulation of dried food residue. The surface was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. There is dried food residue on the outside surface of the refrigerator and freezer doors, of the stainless Frigidaire refrigeration unit. These surfaces were cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.
Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, 1245 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed two knives with nicks on the blades. Observed a build up of old food residue on the bottom of the chute on the toppings dispenser. Observed old food residue on the vegetable slicer. Slicer was placed in the warewash area. Observed a build up of residue around the tops edges on the hamburger chest freezer by the grill. Observed a build up of old residue along the edges and around the hinge on the 2 small Bain Marie units. Observed a build up of syrup residue around the nozzles on both beverage machines.
Drums Fuel Stop Inc., 492 N. Hunter Highway Rt. 309, Drums: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violation: Two 1/2 gallons of milk offered for retail sale are showing expired sell by dates. Items voluntarily removed and disposed.
Microtel Inn & Suites, 1165 Route 315, Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a case of single serve cups stored on a shelf below cleaning supplies. Cups were moved during this inspection. Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing.
NY Pizzeria, 765 Alter St., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violation: Food employees observed in food prep area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats or beard covers.

Goldstein’s Deli, 200 Pierce St., Kingston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violation: A working spray bottles in the prep area, used for storing degreaser taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. The bottle was labeled during this inspection.
Hazleton Palace Buffet, 1057 N. Church St., Hazle Township: Change of owner inspection, in compliance. Violations: Wire rack holding clean food pans is rusted. Ceiling tile missing in dry store room. Fan guards in walk in cooler have build up of mold.

K-Mart No. 7708, 5 Laurel Mall, Hazle Township: Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: Person(s) in charge are not monitoring establishment operation for compliance with food code requirements. Food employee observed in food prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats. Soda fountain dispensing nozzles and heads have build up of scum/mold. Unit taken out of service for cleaning during inspection. Ice dispenser on self serve beverage center has pink slime on ice contact surfaces. Area around ice dispenser on self serve beverage center has build up of static dust. Non-food contact surfaces of conveyor oven and equipment not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Hand wash sinks in food prep areas and towel dispensers have build up of grime on all surfaces. Employee observed washing off equipment in food prep hand wash sink. An approximate 12-inch-by-12-inch hole observed in wall underneath prep table between oven and hot box. Floors in walk in cooler and in food prep/ware wash areas have build up of grime/spilled food residuals.

Penn State Hazleton Housing & Food Service, 17 University Dr., Hazleton: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violation: Top exterior surfaces of dish machine have build up of static dust/grime.
Something Special Bakery, 23 W. Walnut St., Kingston: Follow-up inspection, in compliance. Violation: The exterior door located in the back room of the food facility has a gap at the floor door junction and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Person in charge stated that the repairman is slated to be here today or tomorrow to fix the door.
