HANOVER TWP. — Township police arrested Jackson McElligott, 18, of Barney Street, Wilkes-Barre, on charges he was in possession of marijuana during a traffic stop Monday night.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police allege McElligott was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on the San Souci Parkway for an inoperable license plate light at about 9:30 p.m. An officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

A search of a backpack inside the vehicle allegedly turned up a glass jar containing marijuana, the complaint says.

McElligott allegedly claimed the backpack belonged to him, and he intended to sell the marijuana.

McElligott was arraigned Tuesday in Luzerne County Central Court on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and a single count of possession with intent to deliver marijuana. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.
