WILKES-BARRE — Everyone has a unique set of New Year’s traditions, such as making resolutions, recovering from a late night and busy holiday season or spending time with loved ones.
Families and friends gathered to engage in the latter at Chako’s Family Bowling Center.
For the Rice family, bowling on New Year’s Day is a long-standing tradition.
“Oh, we’ve done it forever, since I was a little kid,” recalled Arden Rice, 19, of Dallas.
As for resolutions, Rice didn’t have anything specific in mind other than “to be a better person every day.”
“I mostly plan to keep working hard. I work at Alexander’s Salon,” Rice added.
Matthew Dailey, 9, of Clark’s Summit, was visiting Chako’s with friends.
“We just wanted to come out and have some fun and hang out with friends,” said Dailey.
“I want to win states this year in wrestling,” Dailey commented on his goals for the year.
Over at WB Movies 14, moviegoers lined up to see winter hits such as “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” “Pitch Perfect 3,” “The Greatest Showman” and “Ferdinand.”
Joann and Rick Mark, of Ashley, enjoyed a day together with their grandson, Seth.
“We saw Jumanji, it was a really good movie for the family,” Joanne said. “If there’s something good that we can all go see, we try to see a movie every New Year’s Day.
“We’re going to finish the day with some pizza and wings.”
As far as resolutions for the Marks?
“I hope for everyone to be healthy, safe and sound this year,” commented Rick.
“I want to get my grades up a little,” Seth added.
“I just want to be healthier in general,” agreed Joann.
