HANOVER TWP. — Township police arrested Darek A. Eichhorn, 19, of Nanticoke, on charges he attempted to elude police during a pursuit when he was spotted on a newly constructed highway not open to the public on Sunday.

Police allege Eichhorn was traveling in a construction zone that is prohibited to public traffic near state Route 29 at about 4:30 p.m. Eichhorn refused to stop and crashed through a gate coming to a stop at a dead end, police said.

Eichhorn and a passenger, Steven Archavage, 36, of Nanticoke, were allegedly in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Eichhorn was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, criminal trespass by vehicle, failure to obey traffic control signs, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting $20,000 bail.

Archavage will be charged at a later date to appear for a preliminary hearing, police said.
