HONESDALE — A 34-year-old Spanish teacher has been charged with invasion of privacy for surreptitiously taking inappropriate photos and videos of female high school students, according to State Police.

Gaspare Michola Gambino, a teacher at Honesdale High School, took photos of females in his class that depicted close-ups of their breasts as well as photos under their skirts and dresses, troopers allege.

According to an affidavit of probable cause:

Gambino, of Honesdale, assigned a project that required the use of the students’ school-issued iPads. One of the students did not have his iPad and Gambino loaned him his school-issued iPad to use.

When the students were done with the project, the 14-year-old student with Gambino’s iPad attempted to log into his Google Drive. The student thought he was in his Google Drive and clicked on the photo tab. When he opened the tab, he discovered photos of several teenage girls he recognized by the clothing they were wearing.

The student said the photos were taken in the classroom. The photos were close-ups of female genitalia and breasts. The females had clothes on in all the photos.

The student reported the incident to school administrators.

Gambino has been placed on administrative leave by the Wayne Highlands School District and was arraigned before District Judge Linus Myers at the Wayne County Courthouse. Bail was set at $10,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 17.

Not all victims have been identified. State Police will be working with school officials in an attempt to identify all of the victims depicted in the photos. If parents believe their child may be a victim, they are asked to call the Honesdale barracks at 570-253-7126.
