The Wyoming, West Wyoming Seniors will hold their annual Halloween social on Oct. 5, at St. Monica’s meeting rooms 1 p.m. Servers Olga Mizen and Joan Kwasny. The arrangement committee consist of Donna Pocceschi, Mary Matani and Sam DeSalvo. Fifty-Fifty winners from the last meeting are MaryAnn Paluck, Mickey DeSalvo and Eleanor Seneski. Bingo Jackot winner was Paul Delaney. Plans for the annual Christmas dinner was discussed and the date selected by the committee was December 3rd. More details later. After the refreshments there will be a short business meeting conducted by Frank Perfinski. Bingo and cards will be played. New members and guest are always welcome.
Active Aging Day
The Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties will be having its first annual “Wyoming County Active Aging Day” at Lazybrook Park in Tunkhannock, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.
The day will be filled with fun activities that include Bingo from 1pm-4pm sponsored by the Northmoreland Volunteer Fire Company with prizes donated by Sheldon Kukuchka Funeral Home in Tunkhannock, live entertainment by DJ and singer George Rittenhouse from 3pm-6pm, as well as many free health screenings and information tables. Delicious food items will be available for purchase from Captain Don’s Chilly Willy Ice Cream truck and Endless Mountain Catering.
Seniors may pre-arrange to order a bag lunch to enjoy at the park by contacting their local Active Adult Center prior to the event, or by directly calling the Wyoming County Active Adult Center at 570-826-2324.
The Falls Active Center, located on Route 92 in Harding, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The following activities are offered to anyone 50 and older:
Monday: 10-11:30 a.m. Wii bowling competition with Tunkhannock Center; 1-2 p.m. Crocheting Club (all levels welcome).
Tuesday: 11-11:45 a.m. Healthy Steps exercise program; Brain Games at lunch.
Wednesday: 10-10:45 a.m. Walking group
Thursday: Nutrition talks at lunch
Friday: 9:30 a.m. to noon Geocaching activity; 11-11:45 a.m. Healthy Steps exercise program
Friday, Oct. 18: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Active Aging Day at Lazybrook Park; Friday, Oct. 25: 1-1:45 p.m. Vocal presentation by song writer, Ronnie Schoonover; Thursday, Oct. 31: Masquerade Party.
Anyone wishing to join us for a hot meal at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and older and $3 for those 50 and older should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.
The Cosmopolitan Seniors next meeting is at 1 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Center on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Host/hostesses are: Mary Dirhan, Marcella Fountain, Frank Fountain,Frank Schall, and Dorothy Serbin..
The previous meeting was attended by 52 members and three guests. After the business meeting everyone enjoyed refreshments and Bingo was played. Bill and Maryann Kull were welcomed back, and Bill entertained the group on the organ. The 50/50 winners were: Amy Alpaugh, Ginny Craig, Johanna Malinowski, Bernie Serbin, and Helen Zarychta. Edmund Czachor won the special game prize, and Marcella Fountain won the Bingo jackpot.
A Casino trip is planed for Wednesday, Nov. 13, with pickups in Exeter and Pittston. You do not have to be a member to come on these trips. Details can be obtained from Johanna at 570-655-2720.
The club meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Mt. Carmel’s Center on William St., Pittston. The servers for this month are Gertie Kichilinsky, Evelyn Levandowski, Sarah Howanitz and Frances Mattucci. Halloween games will follow the social. Remember to please bring canned goods for St. John’s food pantry. It is not too early to think about where you would like to have our Christmas Party this year. Please make suggestions.
A Christmas trip is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 4 to QVC, Brandwine Museum and Longwood Gardens. This promises to be a delightful trip. Call Theresa for details.
