    Robert E. Evans, formerly of West Pittston, died Thursday in Dorrance
Manor,
   
KingstonBorn Feb. 22, 1925, in Forest City, he was the son of the late
Thomas and Ada Proud Evans, who were former owners of the Red Cross Drug Store
in Forest City.
   
He attended Forest City schools and graduated from West Pittston High
School, Penn State Extension and Wilkes-Barre Business College.
   
An Army veteran of World WAr II, he was an associate editor of the Pittston
Gazette from 1950 to 1965 and a Pittston correspondent for the Scranton Times
from 1965 to 1982.
   
He was associated with scouting for 42 years and was scout master of Troop
352 for 25 years.
   
He earned the Silver Beaver Award and was a member of the executive
committee of the Wyoming Valley Boys Scouts of America.
   
The grand marshal for West Pittston Borough’s 125th anniversary parade, he
was also president of the West Pittston Alumni Association for 13 years, was
one of the founders and a past president of the former Rams Booster Club, West
Pittston, and a former member of the John D. Stark Post 542 American Legion,
West Pittston.
   
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, where he served
as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and as the Trinity youth adviser.
   
Surviving are a sister, Natalie Castle, San Diego; several nieces and
nephews.
   
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday from the Howell-Lussi Funeral
Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. James P. Stevenson,
rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating.
   
Interment will be in Pittston Cemetery.
   
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
