Three local athletes were selected to play in the state all-star football game held on Nov. 16.

Trevor Tigue , Roger Stokes and Zach Serpe, members of the Pittston Junior Patriots, were chosen to play in the Turnpike Classic. The Classic is sponsered by the Harrisburg Stampede Indoor professional football team, owned by current New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Marques Colston, a Harrisburg native.

The games were played in Harrisburg at Landis Field and pitted teams from around the state against teams from the Harrisburg area.

The local boys played for the Wyoming Valley Junior Football Conference team. All three played both offense and defense.

Stokes started at receiver and defensive back and also was the team’s punted and kicker. Serpe started at center and defensive end, while Tigue was the team’s quarterback and also played safety. \

The Capital Region team won the game, 14-9, on a late touchdown.
