WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Denison used a late surge to hand the Misericordia University women’s basketball team a 58-47 loss Sunday afternoon at the Smokey Ballenger Classic.


Sam Baro led the Cougars with 14 points and Benton grad Hannah Seely added a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.


After battling to a 28-28 tie in the first half, the Cougars shot just 22.6 percent from the floor in the second half, but trailed just 44-40 with less than four minutes to play.


Delaware Valley product Shannon Croasdale added eight points and Justine Seely grabbed eight rebounds for Misericordia, which won its tourney opener Saturday.

Casey Classic final set


The annual Casey Classic will play its championship game Monday at the rink at Coal Street.


Crestwood and Back Mountain will take part in the tournament final, with puck ddrop set for 6 p.m.


In Sunday’s semifinals, Crestwood defeated Holy Redeemer 6-2, and Back Mountain dropped Pittston Area 3-1.
