Crestwood and Hazleton Area both posted victories on Friday, forcing a special playoff game for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division I boys basketball championship.

The teams will play at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wilkes University. Both teams finished the regular season at 13-1 in the division.

Crestwood took care of Tunkhannock 80-44 on Friday night. Cole Wasco scored a season-high 24 points for the Comets. Luke Casey had 15 and Jason Dotzel and Brian Markowski added 13 apiece.

Adam Billings had 11 to pace Tunkhannock.

Hazleton Area defeated Berwick 79-49 on Friday. Brett Barron paced the win with 16 points as the Cougars opened a 21-point lead at halftime. Jon Fogarty had 10.

MMI Prep 60, Wyoming Seminary 43

The Preppers’ win over the Blue Knights was led by 22 points from Charlie Karchner and 16 from Cory Rogers.

Seth Callahan led the Wyoming Seminary effort with 25 points.

Pittston Area 58, Coughlin 28

Tyler McGarry and Mason Gross each totaled 17 points in the Patriots victory.

Meyers 39, Coughlin 36


Tyler Patronick (138), Gino Setta (145) and Quince Hutchings (152) each earned victories by pin for the Mohawks.


COLLEGE MEN’S SWIMMING


Scott wins event at MAC


Thomas Scott won the 200IM (1:56.49) at the MAC Swimming Championships for Misericordia University.


Pat O’Dell, Scott, Brad Thomas and Kolokithias finished third in the 400 medley relay (3:32.84).


COLLEGE WOMEN’S SWIMMING


Misericordia sets record


Misericordia University women’s swim team won the 400 medley relay and set a meet record in the process at the MAC Championships.


Bree Grzech, Amanda Stammherr, Brittany Luzik and Dani Blass also set a new school record (3:57.52).


Blass added a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.6).


COLLEGE MEN’S TRACK & FIELD


Hause sets record


Mikael Hause won the mile for the Cougars at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational.


Hause set a new school record (4:16.30) while teammate Eric Deignan was seventh.


COLLEGE WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD


Bolton places sixth


Bianca Bolton led the Misericordia University women’s track & field team with a sixth place finish in the mile (5:15.05) at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational.


The 1,600 relay team of Katie Fairchild, Stacey Perrins, Kelty Fairchild and Amy Viti finished sixth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:05.24.
