In the first meeting between Wyoming Area and Pittston Area in spring sports play, the Patriots earned a 4-1 boys tennis win over the Warriors Thursday in Exeter.
Trent Woodruff was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over counterpart Nick Leon. Twin brother Tyler defeated Wyoming Area’s Mike Werbin 6-1, 6-2.
In the No. 3 hole for Pittston Area, Terry Briggs had no problem handling Austin Alder in a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Wyoming Area got its only win when Aaron Carter and Tom Rose took down Pittston Area’s No. 1 doubles team of Christian Charney and Johnathon Durling 6-3, 6-1.
For Pittston Area, Michael Antal and Troy Platukus turned in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gared Zaboski and Ken Morgan.
Wyoming Area 2
Wyoming Area’s Mike Werbin carded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Berwick’s Black Whitemire, while the doubles team of Aaron Carter and Tom Rose were 6-1, 6-4 winners.
Luke Whitenight and Dominic Scicchitano won singles matches to lead the Dawgs.
Pittston Area 4
The Patriots swept the singles matches and earned one win in doubles to defeat the visiting Crusaders.
Trent Woodruff made quick work of his counterpart, Troy Bankus, in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Brother Tyler didn’t drop a point in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The final singles spot was a forfeit in favor of Pittston Area.
The doubles team of Michael Antal and Troy Platukus came out on top to seal the victory.

Wyoming Area 0
The Blue Knights earned wins in all five matches to get the sweep over the Warriors.
In singles play, Mike Werbin was the only Warriors to put up much of a fight in a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Matt Cartwright. The doubles team of Aaron Carter and Tom Rose took Wyoming Seminary to three sets, eventually falling 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
